Position Overview:

Reporting to the Managing Director, this high profile position will be a key member of the senior management team and play a pivotal role in the provision of commercial guidance and support to the business. Key elements will include involvement in major tender preparation and submission, negotiation and resolution of contractual disputes as well as general day to day troubleshooting and the development of commercial systems and processes to meet the needs of the organisation as it grows and evolves.

This is a developing role and it is expected that the remit will quickly expand to encompass broader commercial aspects within the wider group. Based in Doncaster, the position has UK-wide accountabilities so will involve travel to other operating locations within the group.

Role Profile

• Reporting to the MD, you will be responsible for developing and delivering best-in-class commercial and contractual administration support to the business.

• Working closely with senior operational management, you will play a key role in ensuring that commercial risk is managed effectively. Identifying and prioritising key areas of exposure in order that commercial interests and profitability are protected without damaging competitiveness or trading relationships with key clients and business partners.

• Providing hands-on contract & dispute resolution support – helping negotiate effective outcomes for the company and key stakeholders. Capturing key learnings from the resolutions and ensuring that systems and procedures are modified to prevent re-occurrence.

• Establishing systems, policies, procedures and protocols to ensure ongoing compliance with commercial best-practice, implementation of contract checklists, risk assessments and mitigation audits. Future development and implementation of systems and processes to maintain effective control as the business grows and evolves – particularly into new markets and new geographical territories.

• Providing input and guidance to major tender preparation and submission activity, ensuring that all commercial aspects are fully explored and that all contractual risk has been properly identified and mitigated where possible to avoid potential future disputes.

- Monitoring key markets and competitors to identify contract trends and business opportunities – ensuring that the business embraces best practice and maintains commercial competitiveness. Also working with teams in the wider group to share best practice and ensure a consistent approach to commercial risk management and contract administration.

• Personally maintaining visibility and profile within the business, the sector and the industry at large. Networking and representing the company at key customer communities, industry forums and premier events – gathering insights, intelligence, promoting consistent market messages and utilising contact networks to optimise business growth.

• As a member of the senior team, you will be expected to contribute to the continuous assessment and articulation of the commercial landscape in the market, making key recommendations and reporting on progress achieved.

• Producing and presenting regular management information and monthly reports for the Board commenting on commercial performance of all contracts together with an assessment of significant exposures and contingency plans.

Candidate Profile

• Must have a proven track record of successful commercial and contract management within the construction sector.

• Must be ambitious with significant potential for progression – will be attracted to this high visibility, fast-track development role.

• Will be highly motivated with first class negotiation and presentation skills.

• Must be a strong communicator with drive and integrity – team oriented and pragmatic with a strong work ethic with the ability to bring fresh thinking and new ideas to the business.

• Hands-on and results orientated, must be comfortable working in a small team with a down-to earth approach to business. The company has a very strong personal and practical culture, where everybody works hard and takes a real pride in the reputation and success of the organisation.

• Numerically strong with sound technical and project management skills, must be able to evaluate, prioritise and plan effectively as well as interpreting and presenting information / key messages in a meaningful and high impact manner.

Remuneration:

 Negotiable basic salary - c£40k
